Summary: This dissertation studies gender-based violence against journalists Vera
Magalhães, Miriam Leitão, and Andréia Sadi during the 2022 election period
on Twitter/X. To this end, we looked back at the history of journalism in
order to identify the seeds of this territory of aggression in its genesis.
Based on the theoretical foundations of Paveau's Interpretation of Digital
Discourse (2013; 2017; 2021), Malini's Study of Networked Discourse (2016;
2017), Van Dijck's notion of Platformization (2020), and Latour's
Actor-Network Theory (2005), we investigated the following questions: What
are the main challenges faced when analyzing Twitter/X data regarding
violence against female journalists? What are the contributions of data
science to understanding this social phenomenon that unfolds on this
platform? How and to what extent does violence against female journalists
occur in the defined period of time? And, finally, how can the analysis of
this data contribute to make the society where these professionals are less
attacked and to the development of a more informed, fair and democratic
society, where it is possible to create mechanisms to metaphorically remove
these women from this territory of aggression that Twitter/X has become.
