Summary: This research investigated the news frames constructed by journalistic outlets in
Espírito Santo when representing and highlighting the coverage of food insecurity
during the covid-19 pandemic through the analysis of articles published in Jornal A
Tribuna and Portal Século Diário. The dissertation consists of verifying which aspects
gain emphasis and which are excluded in the news construction process, also
evaluating the possible effects of meaning caused by these choices. As a
methodological contribution, the Entmann framing methodology (1993) is used, which
makes it possible to understand how journalistic frames are constructed based on the
analysis of reports, following five steps that help in discovering which aspects of
reality appear in the journalistic text. The five steps of the framework form are
subdivided into date, title, source, problem, cause, whether there is a moral judgment
and the proposed solution. Furthermore, we build on the contributions of Shanto
Iyengar (1991) who classifies events as episodic or thematic when we classify media
articles by editorial and thematic. The research is dedicated to exploring the field of
journalism. In this sense, central concepts of journalism are discussed through the
contributions of authors Josenildo Guerra (2005), Franciscatto (2003), Alberto Dines
(2009) with the aim of understanding and elucidating the role of journalism and the
process of news construction . The specific objective, based on the contributions of
Josué Castro (2003), is to debate the phenomenon of hunger and what perceptions
about it exist, whether they are naturalized or silenced, based on the choices made
by the media outlets to be analyzed. . The analysis is based on the three-year period
that encompassed the occurrence of the greatest health and hospital collapse in the
history of Brazil, which was the Covid-19 pandemic, a scenario in which the
investigation is centered, highlighting the coverage built by the media on insecurity.
nourish in the Holy Spirit. The research results show that the framework constructed
by Jornal A Tribuna led to coverage of food insecurity in a protocolized manner, with
a bias implicitly directed towards the economic area, while Portal Século Diário
carried out coverage in a humanized manner, with a position that claimed the rights
of the population citing several contexts that violated rights such as healthy eating
and others.
